In earlier times Afro Music was known to be second-rated in the world music industry, despite the breakthrough of pioneers like Fela Kuti, and Sunny Ade among others. This problem doesn't have to do with the style or the quality of music made in Africa, but rather the accessibility to music by streamers worldwide.
These factors have minimal African music from gaining the International recognition it deserves.
How?
The majority of international awards base their ratings on the music performance on international streaming platforms, such as Spotify which is the biggest streaming platform in the world, followed by YouTube Music.
The prevalence of Afro-music in the world has increased at great speed since the launch of Spotify in February 2021.
What changed?
Ever since the Approval of Spotify for Africans, Nigerian music has risen to fame, not only because International listeners have access to Afro music, but the streaming by native Africans increased significantly causing shoot-to-stream which automatically prompts the Algorithm to rank African musicians higher, and gets them above charts, As you all know (Africans no dey carry last)
This has greatly encouraged Foreign Musicians who want to expand their Fanbase to collaborate with African Artists for good results. A typical example is Beyonce's "The Lion King" Project.
Take advantage of Spotify today, I will be sharing tips on how to optimize your Spotify and get more streams.
